looking for qualified men and women

Summer is definitely approaching, as lifeguard tryouts are upon us. If you’re in Laguna Beach this weekend, be sure to head down to Main Beach with your coffee at 9 AM and enjoy the show. All events are conducted in prevailing conditions at Laguna beaches.

Lifeguard applicants must complete all tryout events to be eligible for further consideration. Upon successful completion of the tryouts (up 36 qualifiers in places like Huntington Beach) you then move on to the lifeguard candidate training program. If you’ve ever watched lifeguard tryouts or training before it may intimidate you. Not for the weak! Good luck to those trying out for summer 2008, and thanks for keeping us safe.

tourist

Tour-ist
Pronunciation: tur-ist
Function: Noun
Date: 1780

1. One that makes a tour for pleasure or culture
2. One who looks, dresses and acts like they aren’t local
3. Excursionist, sightseer, traveler, or tripper
4. That stereotypical traveler with the burnt red face, zinc on the nose, Hawaiian shirt, camera around his neck, etc, etc, etc. Ugh.

Example: Laguna Beach is always full of tourists.

the world's best beaches: part 1

Everyone has a different opinion on the world’s best beaches. Often the beaches chosen and ranked are the main beaches in a town or city (such as the most accessible beach, which in turn is the one over run with tourist). The beaches that make my personal list are secluded, beautiful, and unique (but you’ll have to become a loyal A Day At The Beach viewer to gain access to that list). Clarity of water, texture and color of sand all help you decide on your personal beach ranking. (When you grow up on the coast, you become picky about even the sand! )

Many times the beaches in these professional rankings are those whose image is burned in our mind, such as Ipanema in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. We know it’s crowded, and dirty, and there are probably better beaches in the city, but we have to see it.

Here is Part 1 of our world’s best beaches coverage. No place is perfect year round (weather), and some spots may be better than others for the type of vacation you’re looking for. Many best lists have categories, so will be providing those to you too. So many entities create these lists, will keep posting different one’s for you to check out. Our suggestion, go with your preferred provider.

beach search made easy

A new website has emerged to help us keep our dream vacation lists in order, and in a place where we can find it! I myself collect tidbits about my dream vacation spots from reading magazines, newspapers, browsing websites, and in passing conversation. However, I always seem to misplace the names of restaurants, spas and shops I’ve taken note of. Fabsearch in a new website that pulls information from the best style magazines about the world’s top vacation destinations.

You can search by destination (Amalfi Coast, Brazil, Mustique, Mykonos, Portofino) or publication (British Harpers Bazaar , Financial Times, Town and Country, Vanity Fare). You can add your personal finds and tidbits in a My Clippings folder. Before you take off on your next trip, easily download all the notes you’ve filed away online.

count down to summer: 127 days to go!

My first blog on beach etiquette...it’s been a long time coming! But now that I've taken this step, I feel so much closer to summer. June 21st is the most magical day of the year and I'm looking forward to it more than most people, I'm sure. I've been wearing my Burberry coat all day, every day, since November, and I'm ready to hang it up. The count down to the longest day of the year (and my mom's birthday) begins now. One hundred twenty-seven days and counting!
